Red the "One-Eyed Wonder"

My forever heart horse, Red, taught me how to love the differences among every animal and human in this world. At the age of five, Red lost his right eye due to a bacterial infection. The doctors put a prosthetic eye in and sealed the wound shut. Despite what most people believed, his life after the surgery was successful in ways beyond imagination.

My journey with Red began in 2018. At a first glance, I knew he was the horse who would take me to the Nationals one day. I can still feel that same rush of adrenaline I felt when I first saw him trot off. Even when the trainer informed us that he only had one eye, I did not judge Red based on his appearance. My first thought was how I would grow to love this horse more than I already did from just getting to see his motion. It was the way he moved so effortlessly and proudly carried his head up high that struck me. Red showed nobility and strength at heart. When I mounted on his back, it just felt right. I cued for him to start at a trot and the sensation was surreal. Never in my life had I experienced this type of bond with an animal so quickly as if it was “meant to be.” I will always remember that day and continue to cherish the heartwarming moment.

A Pre-Rose Parade Showcase:
The Annual Equestfest

Location: Los Angeles Equestrian Center, Burbank

Date: December 29, 2021

In 2021, I was invited to perform at Equestfest. As part of the selection process, riders had to be largely involved within the Arabian community by volunteering and having an outstanding competition record. Each individual rider had to then, be approved by the President of the Arabian Horse Association before becoming a part of the performance. This event occurs annually, working to showcase different breeds of horses and demonstrate their talent. I rode in the performance to showcase the Arabian breed and their excellence. Our primary goal was to show the versatility of Arabian horses through different disciplines of riding. As an exhibition for the general public, the arena was filled with families from all over the city of Los Angeles.
